An artist-first label, born of a diaspora.
maajja launched in 2021 as a home for independent South Asian music. Built between Toronto and Chennai, it gave Tamil indie artists, Sri Lankan diaspora musicians and experimental folk-fusion producers a platform that wasn't tied to film soundtracks.
On launch night, A.R. Rahman introduced maajja to the world as a label that lets artists keep ownership of their masters. Within months, "Enjoy Enjaami" by Dhee and Arivu — produced by Santhosh Narayanan — crossed 500 million views and changed what independent Tamil music could look like, globally.

Acquired by ideal group. A new chapter begins.
On April 10, 2026, ideal group — a founding partner in maajja's original launch — announced the full acquisition of the label. What began as a strategic partnership has become a complete transfer of stewardship: the company that helped build maajja now owns it outright.
maajja 2.0 carries the same artist-first DNA — masters retained, revenues maximized, diverse voices amplified — and pairs it with ideal group's investment in music rights protection and streaming technology. Every existing artist agreement and partnership is honoured under the new ownership.
"maajja was built to amplify the stories and music of independent artists. I am proud to see ideal group carry this mission forward."
"An artist-first label that lets artists keep ownership of their masters."
— A.R. Rahman, 2021
